Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine, Erie held its Colby Cassani Endowed Lectureship Series 03-21-13...

At LECOM's Erie campus, two overlapping Colby Cassani Endowed Lectureships took place 03-21-13.

The Colby Cassani Endowed Lectureship Series (CCELS) at LECOM introduced a wholistic learning experience to medical students, faculty, and staff.  All aspects of organ, eye, and tissue donation are presented to attendees.  Kurt Shutterly, RN, CPTC - Vice President for Operations at the Center for Organ Recovery and Education (CORE), addressed the process and logistics of donation.  Ronald Shapiro, MD- UPMC Transplant Surgeon brought a clinical focus with an overview of Renal Transplantation.  And, Colby Foundation founder and trustee (and mother of our foundation's namesake), Starla Cassani, shared the personal side of organ donation in recounting Colby's story.

LECOM Erie's CCELS attendees joined over 5000 others who have already attended a lectureship.  Through the generosity of the Colby Foundation's contributors, which makes our work possible, we are meeting our goal to ensure that medical schools include education about organ, eye, and tissue donation in their curriculum.  Together, we are accomplishing our mission to educate nationally.
